My very good friend from the 50’s at CBA and a little beyond. We cruised Central Ave. and drag raced on Washington Ave. with Elvis blasting away on the radio, smiles from ear to ear and occasionally took a break to smoke a cigarette or two. Later, at Siena you were the ping pong champ that, in the course of defending your title to all challenger’s, resulted in cutting classes all afternoon. I was no match for you. I feel so very bad that we didn’t link up in our later years. Perhaps that’s still in our future. RIP my friend. Karl Doll CBA '56

My Sympathy to George's family. I met George in the early 1980s when George was working at Office of Mental health, as an IT Director and then was promoted to associate commissioner. He proudly announced one day, meet your new associate commissioner. George always cared for his team and organization, and was interested in advancing the use of technology to serve the people of New York.
Twice I went on George's group fishing trips to Gloucester Mass. The bus would leave around 11pm, arrive in Gloucester early morning, fish all day on a chartered boat, then return to Albany in the evening. One trip the bus did not come, due to a mistake in scheduling, so George and the team, decided to drive. I rode in the back seat with George round trip and heard his interesting stories. George made the trips seem like an adventure.
I did not see George again after the mid-80s, but still remember his friendliness, sharp mind, and trips.
Sincerely,
P

I had the chance to learn from George for three years at the Office of Mental Health, not only on the job but on fishing expeditions around the Capital District. I don’t think I ever met a person who encapsulated kindness, gentleness, and brilliance with a sense of self-deprecating humor. He was one of a kind! Our paths crossed in the doctor’s waiting room a couple months ago, and typical George, he laid out how he and the doctors were definitely going to beat what was ailing him.
He was always ready to fight the good fight. He will be missed.
