Obituary of Theresa Marie Gitto

Theresa M. Gitto, 70, of Albany, New York entered into eternal life following a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. Theresa was born at Brady Maternity Hospital in Albany, NY. She was the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Immaculate Rose (Forte) Baggetta. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Rose. Theresa was a graduate of Cardinal McCloskey High School and enjoyed a career as a secretary for New York State in areas of Art and Education. Theresa was the loving wife of 50 years to Salvatore Gitto of Sicily. She was devoted to her three daughters, Marisa Gitto, Katrina (Joseph) Rogers, and Santina (Timothy) Stewart. She was the adoring Nani to Sienna Rose and Hudson Gitto Stewart. She is survived by her sister, Linda (Edward) Fox, brother-in-law, Michelino (Concetta) Gitto, her nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She also enjoyed keeping in touch with her very close personal friends. Theresa found pleasure in long drives, mini vacations, and visiting her husband’s home town in Italy. But Theresa, said there was no place like home or the simple pleasures of day to day life, such as starting the day with a cup of coffee, chatting with her husband, talking with her girls about their day, crocheting a blanket for family and friends, watching a hallmark movie, going for a walk, taking care of her grandchildren, while making them their favorite foods, planting flowers in her garden, or reading a book. Above all, Theresa lived her life with the divine purpose of caring for her family. Most important to her was providing a nurturing home for her children and grandchildren. Friends who entered became family. She filled her home with love, laughter, joy and food. And when you came in, you sat in the kitchen and ate a delicious meal (even if you were not hungry). And that was and IS LOVE – sharing a meal, a story, and making memories. Due to the pandemic, the services are private. Please note that a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date in honor of Theresa’s life. Theresa advised her girls always to take a moment each day to enjoy for yourself. In honor of Theresa’s memory, please take a moment, enjoy a cup of coffee (or whatever you like to drink), and “dolce far niente” (the sweetness of doing nothing).
