Obituary of Barbara Ruth Dorsey

Barbara Ruth Wilson Dorsey, of Selkirk, N.Y., was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on May 13, 2022 at Evergreen Commons.

Barbara was born in Clarksville, NY and was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High school. She then went on to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 10 years while taking courses at Russell Sage College. Barbara was a part of Blue Star Mothers of America and the lighthouse group. She volunteered at the “Canteen” at Bethlehem Middle School, St. Peter’s Hospital hospice unit and Town of Bethlehem Senior Citizens. Barbara was a member of the Democratic Committee in the 17th district, and she was a Chaplain for the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She also contributed to The Breast Cancer Waiting Room Book published by the Capital District Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.  Barbara attended the Bethlehem Community Church for many years.

Barbara married her high school sweetheart Leo (Pat) Dorsey 59 years ago. They went on to have four children and seven grandchildren; Marc and wife Michelle Dorsey (Leanna, Marshall and Madelynn), Stephen Dorsey (Collin and Cali), David and wife Jennifer Dorsey and Heather Dorsey and her partner Lori Ciafardoni (Mia and Matson); brothers, Lloyd “Bud” (Patty) Wilson and Theodore “Ted” (Joanne) Wilson; and nieces, Kelli, Abbi, Stephanie and Tanya.

She lived a full life as a wonderful mother, mentor, and dedicated community member. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, check in with her friends, and enjoyed her day trips with her husband.

Most of all she loved her family and friends and instilled good values in her children and grandchildren that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

The family wishes to send their deepest gratitude to her dearest friend Charlotte Flynn for her lifelong friendship, and loving support. Thank you to her Pastor Tom Patterson and Sister Mary Frederick for their spiritual guidance.

Services for Barbara will be held privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.
