Obituary of Nancy E. Poehlmann

Nancy Elizabeth Poehlmann left this world in the early morning hours of December 15th, 2022. She was born in Winston-Salem, NC and when she was 8 weeks of age, her parents moved to Avondale Estates, GA, where Nancy and her 3 siblings were raised. She is a graduate of Agnes Scott College, and was a double major in English and French. She attended Indiana University, where she earned an MA in Comparative Literature. After obtaining the MA, she decided to enroll in the Masters of Library Science program at Indiana University, where she met Christian Poehlmann, who was to become her husband and love of her life.

Nancy was a multi-talented person, with interests in rare books and medieval literature. Her love of books and literature translated perfectly into her career as a rare books librarian.  She also loved knitting, needlepoint, crocheting, and traveling.

Her parents, Joseph A. and Nancy Catherine (Cathy) Mitchell, her brother Allan Mitchell, and her sister Margaret Quinn preceded her in death. In addition to her loving and devoted husband of 35 years, Nancy is survived by her sister Mary Santiago. She was Mutti to Diana Walters (Marvin), and Lesley Woodruff (Ryan), and Ma to Christian W Poehlmann and Johann Poehlmann. She is also survived by her grandchildren Connor Wilson, Kali Walters, Gianna Walters, Hudson Walters, Hannah Woodruff, Colin Woodruff, and Grayson Woodruff.

Nancy was a kind and loving soul. She carried herself with dignity, and afforded all that she met the same dignity.

She was unique and will be missed by her family and friends. 06-27 god bless
