I was going to send this just to my old pal, Ann, but thought I’d share it more widely. First, my condolences on the loss of your mom…I remember feeling a bit untethered when my mom passed but found grounding in my siblings, nieces, and nephews as we learned together how to carry her with us. I loved the memories you shared about her. She was indeed a feminist, particularly in her commitment to educating young women. I was a beneficiary of her mentorship and teaching. (Remember the medieval dinner at my house?) what I think now I. Reflection is that she, and several other teachers at Girls Academy, saw something in me that I was not able to see in myself at the time. I guess my Hope is that in my life, in my career as a teacher, teacher educator, researcher and advocate - particularly for underserved youth - has padi their work forward in a way that would help them see the fruits of their labor. So, thank you Mrs. Putney. May your memory be a blessing. Many hugs from far away on the West Coast, -Helen Duffy

Helen, that is so beautiful. Thank you. She did leave quite a legacy and it lives through you and your important work as a teacher and all the roles you play for young people. Oh my gosh.
Yes, I do remember the medieval dinner but would never have if you did not mention it. Thank you so much! Sending love and appreciation your way, Helen.

Anne, Sarah, and Melinda,
I'm saddened to learn of your mom's passing. Mrs. Putney was a wonderful person and a fantastic teacher. I enjoyed taking her Russian literature/history course at AAG, and am grateful to her for introducing me to so many outstanding writers.
Please know that she, you, and your entire family are very much in my thoughts and prayers.

I am saddened by the passing of "Mrs. Putney". She was my History teacher at Girls Academy. She was so full of zest and was a warm, but no-nonsense teacher. She inspired me to be the the best person and the best student I could be. She always took the time to really see her students and connect with them on a very personal level. When I think of my 11 years at AAG, Mrs. Putney is always one of the people I remember the most. I am holding her and her family in the Light.
