Albany – Ruth M. Woodland

Ruth Woodland (fondly known as Mama Ruth), age 94, entered eternal life at home on Saturday, November 18, 2023, with her daughter, Cindy, by her side.  Born in North Argyle she was the daughter of the late Stewart and Ellen Kane McCollum.  Ruth graduated from Cambridge High School in Cambridge NY where she played first clarinet in band and was a star player for their women’s field hockey team. She went on to obtain license in cosmetology from Austin Beauty School in Albany NY. 

Ruth was a hairdresser for many years and owner of Ruth’s Salon which she operated out of her Albany home.  She loved watching baseball and was an avid NY Mets fan.  She enjoyed knitting, word jumble puzzles, and was an active bowler in her former years.  Ruth was also active in China Burma India (CBI) women’s auxiliary for many years. She will be remembered for her kind loving spirit and witty sense of humor.

Loving mother of Cindy Wells and her husband, Joe, of Latham and the late Tim Woodland. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Millard Woodland, Jr. Beloved sister of Marilyn Parker (Ray), Jean McNeil (Lorne), Marie Snyder (George), William McCollum (Carol), Lucy Loomis (Bruce), Donald McCollum, Robert McCollum (Marcia), Kenneth McCollum, the late Joyce Kenosian (Marty), the late Anna Vitale (Manny), the late LeRoy McCollum (Ruth), and the late Janet McCollum.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her grand kitties Bella and Romeo. 

Cindy and Joe would like to thank Ruth’s caregivers, Judy, Mary H., Mary M., Meg, Melissa, Sheila, and Simone, for all their acts of love and kindness shown to Ruth during her illness.

Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Friday, November 24, 2023, at the Applebee Funeral home, 403 Kenwood Ave, Delmar.  Before the service, the family will receive visitors at the funeral home Friday, 12:00 to 2:00.

Interment will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar.
