Obituary of Nancy Houck Salisbury

Nancy (Houck) Salisbury, 81, a kind soul and cherished resident of Allison Park, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21st, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on July 28, 1942, in Albany, NY, the daughter of the late Henry Houck and Jane Houck Stolz.  She is also preceeded in death by her step-sister Christine Stolz.  Nancy shared a loving bond with her husband, Ron Salisbury for 59+ years.

Raised in Delmar and Slingerlands, NY, she graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in 1960 and SUNY Oneonta in 1964 with a degree in Education.  Her passion for teaching led her to dedicate many fulfilling years to aiding students particularly in special education at the elementary school level.

While residing in Allison Park, PA for over 39 years, Nancy found solace at her summer lake house in Willsboro, NY, along the serene shores of Lake Champlain.  Her love for the lakes and the Adirondacks blossomed, creating cherished family memories with evenings spent making s’mores by the campfire.

A devoted family woman, Nancy treasured time spent with her beloved husband, sons Michael R. Salisbury (Susan Wygant) and Scott R. Salisbury (Kristin Anderson), and adored granddaughters Elora, Elise, and Lily.  Her infectious sense of humor, boundless kindness, and eagerness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impact on those around her.  In addition to her immediate family, Nancy is survived by her sister Bette (Houck) Newell (Roger Newell), brother Gary Houck (Jancy Gallt), stepsister Erika (Stolz) Somers and several nieces and nephews.

Nancy enriched her life with simple pleasures: playing games with her granddaughters, swimming in the lake, taking leisurely walks with her beloved dog Emmy, indulging in baking, painting, puzzles, and finding enrichment in the pages of a good book.

An active member of her church community, Nancy served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School, provided children sermons during worship services, and engaged in prayer ministry for 20+ years.  Alongside her husband Ron, Nancy welcomed Y and De AuDuong into their family, following a church mission supporting South Vietnamese refugees after the Vietnam War.  Y and De, along with their younger brother Sam (who later rejoined his older brothers) flourished with beautiful families of their own, continue to hold Nancy and Ron dear as 'Mom & Dad'.

There will be a family burial service for Nancy at the Bethlehem Cemetery in Delmar, NY on Saturday, December 2nd at 11:00am.  In addition, a memorial service to celebrate Nancy's life will be held on December 13th at Parkwood United Presbyterian Church in Allison Park at 11:00am.
