Obituary of Ellen L. Jeffers

Ellen L. (Kodesch) Jeffers, 67, of Scotia, NY, passed away on December 22, 2023. She was the loving wife of Richard Jeffers.

Born on February 15, 1956 to Charles F. Kodesch and Antoinette “Toni” M. (Weber) Kodesch, Ellen was the third born of five children. Life in Scotia during the fifties and early sixties was fun and carefree. They walked to school and played on the way home. After dinner they would play outside until the street lights came on. Summer vacations with family were spent at Long Lake and Cape Cod.

Ellen was an industrious teen who babysat for her neighbors in Scotia. It’s through this work that she met the love of her life and husband, Richard, when she babysat his nephews. They married in 1979 and built a beautiful home together for nearly 45 years, residing in Rotterdam and later, Scotia. They enjoyed cooking meals together, including an annual Thanksgiving dinner for extended family, camping with friends and family, and watching shows, movies, and NASCAR.

After attending Scotia-Glenville Senior High School, Ellen went to cosmetology school. Her passion for skincare and makeup lasted a lifetime. For more than 30 years, Ellen dedicated her career to the State of New York as an executive assistant for the Department of Public Services, where she made lifelong friends. Since retiring, Ellen had enjoyed sleeping in late, meeting friends for lunch or shopping, and playing games on Friday nights with friends and family. For all who knew Ellen, they will remember her great sense of humor, incredible sweet tooth, love of all things Barbie and anything purple, and her generous spirit.

Ellen was predeceased by her father Charles Kodesch, 1991, her grandmother Julia Pustai, 1996, her sister Julie (Kodesch) Goodfriend, 2013, her mother Antoinette Kodesch, 2013, and her step son Scott Jeffers (Maureen), 2015. She is survived by her husband Richard and her step children: Derrick Jeffers (Lisa), Mark Jeffers (Susan), and Shelly Rushlow (Keith). She is also survived by her siblings: Charles Kodesch (Lyndel), Steven Kodesch (Margaret), and Kurt Kodesch. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
