Obituary of Tobie L. Anderson

SLINGERLANDS – Tobie L. Anderson, 71, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at St. Peter's Hospital. Tobie was born in Jamestown, NY on August 31, 1943 to his parents Carl and Linnea Anderson. He grew up in Bemus Point, NY and was graduated from Bemus Point High School in 1961. He was in the first graduating class of Jamestown Community College, where he helped found the "Young Republicans Club." Tobie then attended the University of Buffalo and was graduated in 1966 with a degree in political science. He was a member of the International Society and enjoyed hosting weekend getaways for his international friends on Lake Chautauqua. Tobie attended Albany State University and received a Masters degree in political science in 1967. He worked at the Department of Labor, Mental Hygiene, and concluded his thirty year career with the state in the Department of Criminal Justice. Tobie served as the chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals in East Greenbush for twelve years. In retirement, he loved his job with the Spotlight Newspapers since it gave him the opportunity to socialize with so many people. Tobie made friends wherever he went. He cherished his family. He especially enjoyed the adventures they had and their travels throughout the United States and Europe. Tobie was an avid reader. He would tell his friends that he loved puppets, politics, and professional wrestling. He was very proud of his Swedish heritage. He was a member of VASA (a Swedish organization) and was a regional delegate for the local chapter. Tobie was extremely knowledgeable in Swedish history and enjoyed giving occasional lectures on the topic. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his step-daughter Lauren (Brandon) Milholland, of Scarsdale, NY, and his sister Maj-Britt Traynor, of Bemus Point, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar on Friday, May 15, 2015 from 4 to 7pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 1pm in the First United Methodist Church, 428 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to VASA in care of Anders Faltskog 10 Charles Street Ballston Spa, NY 12020. Donations will be dedicated to providing educational experiences for students to learn more about Scandinavia.
