Obituary of Lois C. Dillon

DELMAR - Lois C. Dillon age 94 passed away on Thursday august 6th. Born in Albany she was the daughter of Dr. Frank B. Hayner of Waterford and Lena Heager of Troy. She was the wife of the late Edward R. Dillon jr. of Troy who was the owner and president of Empire Paint Company of Albany. Lois was a lifelong resident of Albany County and has been a resident of Delmar for over 50 years. Lois is survived by her daughter Carol Dillon of Delmar and her dachshund Otto. She is a graduate of the Milne School and Mildred Elley in Albany and attended and graduated from the Alveni School of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan. Lois led a very full, healthy and interesting life. She was an accomplished athlete winning several trophies in golf and tennis. Her broad interests included: nature, gardening, politics and world affairs, history, the arts and she was an avid reader. Her very special interest was learning about the world and its people and cultures demonstrated by her extended travel all over the world where she visited all world continents. Lois also had a special interest in serving the community to make a better world. To this end she was a member of the Albany County Citizens Planning Committee, Albany Council of World Affairs. She served as President of the Albany County League of Women Voters and President of the Albany International Center where she hosted guests from all over the world. For over 40 years Lois has been very active in various organizations in Delmar. She was the president of the Bethlehem Garden Club, President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Bethlehem Historical Association and President of the Delmar Progress Club where she chaired the Travel Group and planned and took club members on more than 25 trips all over the northeast and Canada and was the NY state Chairman for Canine Companions for Independence for the Club where she helped to raise a great deal of money. This position was most important to her in that it trained dogs to help physically and emotionally impaired individuals to succeed and lead a better life. Many Delmar residents also have enjoyed the Bethlehem Community Network Television series on historic sites and places of interests created and hosted by Lois as well as the Bethlehem Historical Association self-guided tour of historic houses she created. Lois’s kindness, enthusiasm and zest for life will be greatly missed by her friends, colleagues and most of all her daughter.
