Obituary of Joseph A. Allgaier

Allgaier, Joseph "Joe" Adelbert, formerly of Delmar, died peacefully in Deephaven, Minn., on July 30th, 2016 at the age of 87. Born October 18, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Maria and Joseph Allgaier, he is survived by his brother's John Allgaier, of Houston, Texas, and Frank Allgaier, of White Plains, NY, his children Joseph G. Allgaier, of Melbourne, FL., Barbara (Michael) McGonigle of Excelsior, MN., and Karen (Patrick) Plesh of Waterford, WI; grandchildren Margaret, Michael, Katelyn, Matthew, Lauren and Mason, many nieces and nephews. Joe cherished 57 years of marriage to his wife Jacqueline Joy Allgaier, who preceded him in death July 2015. A graduate of Pratt Institute and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Joe flourished in a long career with NY Telephone/NYNEX in engineering and management positions until his retirement in April of 1988. Joe enjoyed life to the fullest with his passions for downhill skiing, playing golf as a long-time member of Normanside Country Club, and a private pilot as a member of the Scotia Flyers Club. In his retirement, Joe served the town he loved so much as Bethlehem's Town Historian from 1991 to 2005, and co-authored the memoires "Bethlehem Diary" and "Bethlehem Revisited." Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, August 12th at 10:00 am, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar, NY. Visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Interment to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar. In lieu of Flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Bethlehem Historical Association, P.O. Box 263, 1003 River Road, Selkirk, NY 12158.
