Ian Boegel

Obituary of Ian Patrick Boegel

DELMAR - Ian Patrick Boegel, age 13, passed away peacefully on June 6th, surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Ian is the beloved son of Patrick and Michelle. In addition to his parents, Ian is survived by his big sister, Clare; grandparents Martin and Susan Furlong, Margaret Boegel, the late Edward Boegel; many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved Ian deeply; and his best friend Joey.

In spite of the difficult challenges he faced in his short life, Ian found great enjoyment in many experiences and had an amazing way of gathering people into his world who cared and surrounded him with love and support.  Some of his favorite activities were family vacations, swinging on the hammock in Long Lake, jumping off the diving board into Nana’s pool, playdates, sleepovers, museums, libraries, Hi-5 sports, super heroes, restaurants with chicken nuggets and french fries, water slide parks, Scooby Doo and Star Wars movies, and toy action figures.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 pm on Saturday, June 10th at Applebee Funeral Home in Delmar.  A memorial service will follow at 6pm.   In recognition of Ian’s love of bright colors, please consider wearing joyous clothing.  Also, the family would love for people to share happy and funny memories of Ian with them, whether it be electronically or a written note. There will also be a place to write down memories at the service to be shared with the family at a later time.

We would like to thank the staff at Albany Medical Center PICU, C7 and Dr. Joanne Porter for the incredible care provided to Ian and his entire family.

In honor of two places where Ian enjoyed spending time, contributions can be made to the Bethlehem Public Library in Delmar, NY in memory of Ian Boegel or Hi-5 Sports at www.hi5sports.org.
