Obituary of Mary Ellen Kuta

DELMAR - Mary Ellen Kuta passed away peacefully at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, surrounded by her loving and supportive family.  She was 71 years old and a 22-year survivor of breast cancer. 

            She was born on August 8, 1946 in Rockville Centre, NY to Francis J. Downs and Ruth M. Downs.

            She graduated from Nazareth College of Rochester, NY and graduated from the University of Michigan a year later with a MS in Speech Pathology.  She spent her career developing services for children and adults with developmental disabilities and the NYS Department of Health in the administration of standards and surveillance of hospitals and clinics. 

            She is survived by her husband Edward J. Kuta; her son Commander John E. Kuta and wife Valerie; her daughter Allison M. Kuta of Baltimore, MD; her grandchildren Jack, Thomas, Cade, and Oren Kuta; her siblings James F. Downs, Cohoes, Anita Dunn, Saratoga Springs, Joanne O'Brien, Delmar, John Downs, MD, Baltimore, MD, and Betsy Lohmann, Alexandria, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

            Calling hours will be held at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Monday, July 16th, from 4 to 7 p.m.  A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Church in Delmar.  Internment will be at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Hamburg Street, Schenectady.  For those who wish, memorial donation to Susan G.
