Obituary of Alice W. Wimmers

DELMAR – Alice W. Bielling Wimmers, 81, a longtime resident of Delmar passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends on Monday, September 24, 2018.

Born in Karlsruhe, Germany on October 19, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Friedrich Wilhelm and Anna Mathilde (Fricke) Ganz.  Alice was a graduate of Hardtschule School and Colonna Beauty School.  Alice owned and operated her own beauty parlor, Hair Fashions by Alice in Delmar for over 40 years.

Alice loved being outside in the sun working hard in her many gardens and walking throughout her community.  She took pride in her German heritage and became a member of the German American Club of Albany in 1975 where she was an honorary officer. Alice worked summer picnics and could be found at the ticket table with a funnel cake by her side. No one could ever question her loyalty to the club as she meticulously maintained the flowers, shopped, prepped food, cleaned and worked local fundraisers.

In her earlier years, Alice won numerous trophies as a league bowler. She frequently vacationed to Atlantic City and practiced her skills at home playing her draw poker game. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Alice liked watching sports, especially soccer and baseball. The Cincinnati Reds were her favorite team and she loved rooting against the Yankees all while sporting her infamous bright pink fingernails.

In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her husband of 27 years, Horst Wimmers, and her sister, Ingeborg Ganz.

Alice is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia (Bill) Keller and her granddaughters, Jennifer (Shawn) Pluckrose and Danielle (Chris) Petrone and great grandchildren, Riley, Gunnar and Dylan, who will keep their Omi forever in their hearts.  She is also survived by her sister, Ilse (Bob) Verstandig and her niece and nephews;   her sisters-in-law, Annegret (Jurgen)  Hahn and Ingrid Franken, as well as her many dear friends.

The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Alice while at her home, St. Peter’s Hospital and the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s.  Their care and friendship will never be forgotten
